You guys know that morning rush feeling? Guess we all experience that one A LOT. Getting ready for work, while dressing the kids and making breakfast. Not easy. I have to admit that I for one am not a morning person. I don’t like the stressed feeling after just waking up and it ensures bad decision making.
So when I have to build an outfit from scratch in the morning, most of the time it isn’t a winner. That’s why I try to have a couple of outfits I keep wearing, that are appropriate for work. A sort of capsule wardrobe for work, with pieces that make me feel confident and make me look smart. So I thought I’d share some of my favorite items and how I wear them for work.
A black blazer is an essential wardrobe staple, not only for work. Throughout the years I’ve reached for this classic numerous times and I wear it for almost every occasion. I still remember getting my first interview for a job and running to the store for a black blazer, ever since I’ve worn a lot of different styles, but I’ve never been without this essential. Eventhough I love the Balmain blazers, they just don’t fit my style. I love a clean, minimal look and I’d rather not spend too much on a blazer, because I’m just so clumsy and get them dirty before I know it. This one is from Esprit but is already a couple of years old. I found some other amazing ones for you guys. I really love this one from Karl Lagerfeld and I’m putting this one on my wishlist as we speak! Not too expensive, yet really classic and stylish. For budget proof, yet great items I always shop at Zara. They just have so many amazing designs – and if you want to follow trends, you’re at the right address.
The White Top
I have numerous white tops in my outfit, and for good reason. I just keep grabbing these for work, parties and just casual summer days. It’s important to really look at how the fabric falls on your body. As much as I’m a fan of (organic) cotton, most of the time it isn’t the best option for flowy tops. White tops come in any style and I don’t think you should follow a particular one, just go with the trends as you wish, but the white version of it will always work – for any occasion. I do believe it’s important to invest in white tops, but I get them dirty in no time, so I always shop for the not too expensive ones. Perfect: Zara.
Black heels are quintessential to a work wardrobe. They suit most outfit combinations and are so stylish! That is with the right model of course. I always go for minimal, timeless designs that are comfortable. Because nothing is as embarrassing as walking with painful feet at work. These ones I’ve had for a couple of years now and they are from Clarks but a similar style you can find at Net-A-Porter. Find your own design that you feel great in and want to wear everyday, with every outfit. There is a perfect black heel out there for everyone!
In summer I always find it hard to find an outfit for work that shows some leg. Before you know it, it’s just too much. I found that a classic style shorts always work. It’s great for hot days at your desk. For some offices it’s not suitable, but I guess for most this one will work out okay. These shorts are from Hollister, but aren’t available anymore. Some other great picks here, here and here. Of course, dresses and skirts are perfect ways to show some leg during warm work days, but I’m not that much of a skirts and dresses kind of girl – don’t ask me why.
Seriously, I don’t know how I would live without these pants. I’ve had these ones for years now and I still wear them all the time and for so many different occasions. It’s the perfect pair of trousers for work, but I’ve been to weddings, funerals, parties and so on with these ones. Couldn’t think of a more versatile piece in my wardrobe. Like all the items I’ve talked about, it’s important to invest in quality and the right fabric. These trousers should fit you perfectly and I promise you, you’ll have years of joy out of them. I usually combine them with white tops or black tops – how refreshing ^^ .
Hope you guys enjoyed this post! I’m thinking about making a series with workwear… what would you guys think about that?
